In Woody Allen's classic, 'Annie Hall' Annie talks about the allure of California, "It's wonderful. I mean, you know they just watch movies all day." to which Allen's character replies, "Yeah, and gradually you get old and die." Well, the Buck Institute on Age Research is working on fixing that last part.

Built on nearly 500 acres and opened in 1999, the Institute spends tens of millions of dollars annually for research on the aging process and its associated diseases such as Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Cancer, Stroke, and Arthritis. Architecture Prize Laureate,I.M. Pei was so interested in the mission of the Buck Institute that he submitted an unsolicited proposal and built the research facility. The work of the more than 70 PhD's at the Institute have resulted in many discoveries on aging issues. Just last week they published a study in 'Science' suggesting a new avenue of research on proteins which provides a link between aging and cancer.
