The J Church Line, Mission District
Many visitors to San Francisco are surprised to find a light rail system throughout the city. Not as well known as the cable cars, Muni's light rail, street car system currently operates the J, K, L, M, and N lines and carries about 50 million passengers a year. These lines run both above and below ground level and are the fastest way to travel east-west across the city. The N line begins at the Embarcadero on the east side of San Francisco and terminates one block from Ocean Beach on the west. The walls of the tunnels in streetcar system are covered in murals that depict stories of San Francisco's history.
