Picture Perfect, Land's End
From the beginning, San Francisco bay has been one of the most filmed areas in the world. The first feature film, 1903's 'The Great Train Robbery' was shot here in Niles Canyon. In 1923 Erich von Stroheim masterpiece, 'Greed' shot inside a building at Hayes and Laguna becoming the first major film shot using natural interiors. From 'Bullitt' to 'The Graduate', 'Vertigo' to 'Joy Luck Club' that heritage has continued. However today some locally produced films do not even feature the city. 'The Nightmare Before Christmas', 'James and the Giant Peach', 'Antz', 'Shrek', 'The Incredibles', 'Nemo' and all the other Pixar and PDI animated films were created here without the benefit of the local scenery. Despite that, every year several new films do manage to show off San Francisco to movie-goers from around the world.
