Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly were two of the first inmates sent to Alcatraz. The prison was designed to house the nation's most incorrigible inmates and its tight security had a ratio of one guard for every five prisoners. Despite the high security five inmates escaped off the island. Prison officials claimed none of them could have survive the water and must surely drowned. However years later fitness expert Jack LaLane survived the swim... performing the feat handcuffed... towing a 1000 pound boat... on his 60th birthday.
