South Tower, Golden Gate Bridge
Beautiful and deadly. There have been over 1200 known suicides from jumping off the bridge. It is estimated that hundreds more have taken place without being witnessed. In 1973 as the toll was reaching 500 and being published in the local newspapers bridge workers stopped 14 potential jumpers including a man wearing the number '500' pinned to his chest. The papers have since stopped publishing a tally. The 222 foot drop is equal to that of a 19 story building. The trip takes four seconds and reaches a speed of 75 mph. Practically every jump is off the east side which presents a last and gorgeous view of the city's skyline.
