Mini Series, Berkeley Kite Fest, Day 3 of 3
Along with the competition and demonstrations were team kite flying, kite wranglers, as well as children's kite making and ascensions. One of the real treats was Australian-born kite master Ray Bethell. Ray, pictured above, single-handedly performed choreographed aerial kite ballet routines flying three or more aerobatic kites simultaneously to music. Using a belt rig to control the third kite, Ray describes it as "sort of like trying to pat your head and rub your belly at the same time, while riding a unicycle… backwards… and set to music.” it's made even more amazing by the fact that Ray is completely hearing impaired.
