Mini Series, Berkeley Kite Fest, Day 2 of 3
One special feature to this year's festival was a delegation from the Sode-cho Kite-Flying Society of Hamamatsu, Japan. Their traditional Machijirushi kites are indigenous to Hamamatsu and are made from fine paper and bamboo. In Japan it's customary for people to fly a special celebratory kite on which the name of a newborn child and its family name are written. The Hamamatsu kites, or tako, range up to twelve feet by twelve feet and displayed the kanji character, yume (dream) as this year theme.
