Hawk Hill, Marin Headlands
Overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge in the Marin Headlands is a high coastal trail that will lead you to the top of Hill 129. Better known as Hawk Hill, this is one the nation's premiere locations to view flying raptors. As many as nineteen different species of raptors including various falcons, hawks, vultures, and eagles can be seen from here. During their autumn migration each year, tens of thousands of raptors soar over Hawk Hill. Volunteers with the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory have logged up to 2,800 different raptors on a single day from this hill less than four miles from San Francisco. You can get more information here about the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory, including how to volunteer your time or money in the preservation of California raptor populations.
