Officers Club, The Presidio
One and a half times the size of Golden Gate Park, the Presidio covers nearly 1500 acres of San Francisco and contains dozens of miles of trails, open spaces, golf courses, scenic views, and shoreline. The Presidio is filled with towering eucalyptus, redwoods, cypress and over a dozen other varieties of trees. The Officer's Club here is built over the remains of the old Spanish Presidio dating back to 1776. This former Spanish, Mexican, and later, United States military base was converted to park land in 1994 and houses a large number of nonprofit organizations. If this building looks a little familiar it may be because it was the site of the opening murder scene in the 1988 Sean Connery, Meg Ryan film, 'The Presidio.'
