Table by the Window, North Beach
Yesterday we looked at San Francisco Bay Area inventions. Today let's consider just a few of the foods that were created in the Bay Area, they include Crab Cioppino, Popsicles, Chicken Tetrazzini, cheese dogs, Rocky Road Ice Cream, Green Goddess Dressing, Oysters Kirkpatrick, Crab Louis (or Louie), fortune cookies, seedless table grapes, Caesar Salad, and yes, Rice-a-Roni. It may also surprise you to learn that both chop suey and the burrito were first created in San Francisco by Chinese and Mexican immigrants, respectively. The area is also responsible for the creation of a number of drinks including the Cosmopolitan, the Irish Coffee, the Mai-Tai, and the Martini.

Don't forget It's It Ice cream sandwiches! I didn't realize they were a San Francisco exclusive until I left home, and they're high on my long list of "things I'm homesick for."

Yeah Noelle, I love the It's It. I just wasn't sure anyone outside the Bay Area would know it.
