Fly-Casting Pools, Golden Gate Park
Whatever your sport, from archery to horseback riding, soccer to rowing you can probably find it in Golden Gate Park. Even fly fishermen have a place to practice. The Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club was established here in 1894. Three large casting pools provide the site for their fly-casting tournaments, but everyone is welcome to try their hand. Next to the pools, is the 1930s-era rustic redwood and field stone cabin, fitted with wrought iron and leaded glass windows that serves as the angler's clubhouse. Over the years the GGACC has been responsible for many innovations in fishing equipment and the casting ponds have been the site of national tournaments in 1950, 1956, 1981, 1993 and 1998.
