Flood Waters, Marin County
Spring brought record rainfall to the Bay Area. This normally gentle and gurgling creek overflowed into a raging torrent earlier in the month and in Mill Valley, a sudden hillside mudslide engulfed, buried, and killed a man in his own backyard. But with the end of April comes the end of the rains. From May through September, less than one inch aggregate of rain will fall, the summer's moisture coming from fog instead. It has been estimated that the area's fog drip is equal to 10 inches of rain a year. For my part, I welcome the end of the rains and the return of the summer fog.
