San Francisco from a Sausalito Balcony
After her Pine Street brothel was raided in 1949 San Francisco's legendary and stylish Madam, Sally Stanford finally decided to get out of the business and opened an opulent Victorian restaurant across the Golden Gate in Sausalito. In 1962 she ran for a Sausalito City Council and lost, but she continued to run and was finally elected. Eventually she became a beloved figure in Sausalito and was elected Mayor in 1976. When she died in 1982 Sausalito’s flags were flown at half staff.
