Hang Glider, Fort Funston
Fort Funston sits at the south end of Ocean Beach. Its fifty foot tall, wind-swept cliffs overlook the Pacific and create a near perfect spot for hang gliding the year-round. Originally the fort was created to house massive 16 inch guns, with a 26 mile range. This battery was designed to protect the San Francisco from an offshore naval bombardment. Today along with the hang gliders, Fort Funston is known as a dog owner's paradise. Each day hundreds of happy dogs are allowed to run free over the cliff top sand dunes.
