Fillmore Street, Pacific Heights
On the the steeper streets of San Francisco cars park perpendicular instead of parallel and the sidewalks have stairs cut into them. The steepest incline in the city is on 22nd Street, between Church and Sanchez. This two block area can defeat any car's clutch on the ascent. One favorite pastime of locals (OK, just me) is to drive visitors there from the backside and then punch the gas as the car shoots over the crest shouting "Oh my God!! Where did the street go?!!". I advise seat covers.

Hehe, I just love driving in San Francisco and love being the chaffeur to tourists. I drove there every weekend to explore the town but never found "the steepest incline." There are just somethings that locals know.

i've driven on 22nd street in a rental car. there was a lot of cursing afterwards from the passengers because they didn't expect anything.
