Gull, Fort Mason
On the northern waterfront of San Francisco is Fort Mason, a former military base that has been converted into part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area. During World War II it was the embarkation point for 1.6 million troops off to fight in the Pacific. Ronald Reagan served here, in charge of loading convoys. Fort Mason now houses museums, theaters, classrooms, environmental organizations and Greens, one of the finest vegetarian restaurants in the country.
