Cinco de Mayo Festival, Dolores Park
¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Here is a photo from Saturday's Cinco de Mayo Festival in Dolores Park. In 1861 area of Dolores Park was a purchased by Congregation Sherith Israel and served as a Jewish cemetery for 30 years. In the mid 1890s, due to the need for land, all cemeteries inside San Francisco were closed and the graves relocated to the city of Colma, south of San Francisco. In 1905, the City of San Francisco bought the 14 acres and turned it into a city park. The park sits in one of the city's warm and sunny microclimates making it a popular spot for residents of the Castro and Mission districts as well as a convenient site for a number of annual events and festivals. Today Dolores Park has six tennis courts and one basketball court; two soccer fields, a playground, and a clubhouse.
