Chicken John's Mayoral Campaign
San Francisco politics are a spectator sport. Past candiates for mayor have included transvestites, prostitutes, and performance artists. In November of last year, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome won re-election over a field of 23 diverse and sometimes bizarre candidates. Among the also-rans was the mysterious Captain Democracy and the popular local artist John Rinaldi, aka Chicken John. If elected Chicken John offered to "hold a raffle to see who gets to drive the truck that knocks down that fucking bow and arrow thing on Embarcadaro that insults each and every artist in SF." Pictured above is Chicken John's campaign vehicle, his pickup truck, converted to run off hydrogen recovered from gasifying pelletized biomass, such as coffee grounds. Chicken John came in sixth in the election with 2,500 votes. Sadly, the bow and arrow still stands.
