Vertigo at the Contemporary Jewish Museum
The newest museum in San Francisco (until the Academy of Sciences opens next month) is the Contemporary Jewish Museum located near the Moscone Center. The striking building was designed by world-renowned architect, Daniel Libeskind. Libskind built upon an existing 1907 power substation to create the 63,000 square foot museum. The two contrasting building forms represent the two letters that make up the Hebrew word chai, meaning life.

Among the first exhibits in the Contemporary Jewish Museum is 'The New Yorker to Shrek: The Art of William Steig.' The museum is not a collecting institution, meaning there are no permanent pieces to display so no gallery photography is allowed but hopefully these photos give a sense of the museum's striking gallery space. This new building is another welcome addition to the many museums and galleries in the Yerba Buena Gardens Arts District.

OK, I was so blown away by the photographs that I forgot to leave my comment. The museum also has a very positive feel to it, which is a really nice change from the "usual" heavy stuff.

Thanks, I appreciate the nice comments. BTW, is it pronounced 'toe-mot-tay far-chi' or 'toe-mate farsi'? Just curious.

You deserve them! This is one of the best blogs I've seen, ever. I need to sit some place with my laptop and have look through your archives, one of these days.

It's pronounced "To-maht Fahr-see" but you know, I say Tomato you say Tomahto ;)

I have a bigger screen today and the top picture of the diamond-shape steel addition is completely blowing me away. Well done!!!

Most architect’s think Libeskind is a pretentious idiot. Lately he has become the hack developer’s architect of choice, cranking out quick renderings of “funny shaped buildings” but this should not be confused with real architecture.

Daniel Libeskind’s wife and business partner, Nina Libeskind, hired Alexander Gorlin Architects to design the Libeskind’s own home in Manhattan. (You could lool it up.)

One can only assume that Nina also feels her husband Daniel Libeskind is a pretentious idiot as well.

I can't believe that people take this clown seriously.
