Phoning it In, Richmond District
A number of parking meters in San Francisco offer an alternative to feeding in coins. Some specially-marked parking meters can be paid for by using a cell phone. The program went into use on September of last year and is not available on all city meters.

In another meter-related story, in May San Francisco set up ten special meters in an attempt to deal with the panhandling problem. Rather than giving money directly to the homeless, people are encouraged to slide their coins into the special orange meters. Money deposited in these meters will go directly to charities that help the homeless. The hope is that these meters will reduce panhandling while still allowing people to contribute. Both meter programs are still in their evaluation period.

I think it's about time we replace Taft's "The City That Knows How" with "The City That Doesn't Have a Clue"...

Parking meters paid for with a cellphone?   Must be some evil lurking there someplace...

But special orange meters for donations to the homeless gets my prize for the ultimate in rediculousness...   I'm just guessing, but I don't think anybody is going to be happy when I tell them I already gave at the meter...

I'm in 110% total agreement with aphotoaday. What amazes me most of all is not that these orange meters actually exist, but that someone got PAID to come up with that idea. Honestly, is there one person in city government with half a brain? Just a half?

Glad to see you got the technical hiccups out of FogBay and are back up and running as usual.
