Bicycle Culture, The Haight District
With gas over four dollars a gallon many people are taking a second look a bicycling as a mode of transport rather than recreation. San Francisco's compact size has made it an ideal location for bikers for decades. Bike messengers are the quickest and most efficient way to get a package across downtown. The city has more than 40 such companies employing over 400 bike messengers. These daredevil riders are far from the only bicyclists on a work day, there are nearly 40,000 San Franciscan's who use their bikes on a daily basis. The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition provides biking information, maps and other resources to encourage and promote more riders. One result is a San Francisco law that requires all major outdoor events of more than 2,000 people to provide 'bike valets' and secured parking.

A very creative bicycle rider.   Hope he has a good medical insurance plan...

In highschool metal shop I remember spending most of a semester trying to turn a bicycle into a unicycle, but I never could figure out how to ride the darn thing...

Hmmm, have not seen this guy yet. I'll have to keep an eye out for him.

I have been strangely attracted to Vespas lately, but maybe because they come in such pretty colors.
