Highway One, Marin Coast
State Route One, or how I spent my Sunday morning.

Better known as Highway One, this road dates back to 1921 and stretches 655 miles up California. After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway One follows Marin's high rocky coastline, here just a few miles from Muir Woods. Highway One offers wide views of the windswept Pacific Ocean as it winds its way north through Marin, Sonoma, and Mendocino Counties. While Highway 101 further inland offers faster transportation for north-south travelers, Highway One's slower, winding, and scenic two lanes have been officially designated an All-American Road.

When we did our big drive from Texas to Alaska, we decided to go a wee bit out of the way and go over to the 1 and 101 and go North. It was worth the "slight" detour. We hugged the coast all the way to the Olympic peninsula in Washington, with brief forays inland. The views of the Pacific are unmatched.

Thanks for sharing these two great photographs. They are outstanding. Well framed and cropped. It's really hard to find a turnout to do photography.

An admirer of your work,
Troy
