Homeless Crabs, The Haight District
A bag full of cooked crabs left on a park bench in the Haight District for the homeless or hungry. One San Francisco organization that has been distributing food to those in need for 25 years is Food Not Bombs. Often running into legal problems with local authorities, San Francisco Food Not Bombs volunteers have been arrested over 1,000 times for failure to secure permits and other charges. The revolutionary group maintains however that providing food should not be a criminal offense. Active throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, Food Not Bombs was among the first to provide food and help to the survivors of the Asian Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.
