Urban Redwoods, Financial District
One of the things you probably wouldn't expect to find in San Francisco's downtown Financial District is a half-acre grove of soaring Redwood trees. But that's just what you'll find tucked in behind the Transamerica Pyramid, a lovely urban forest created by designer Tom Galli. The grove's 80 trees were transplanted here from the Santa Cruz mountains in 1972. Also inside the grove is a bronze plaque dedicated to two famous dogs from the 1860s, San Francisco's beloved, Bummer and Lazarus. The redwood grove remains a popular picnic spot for people lunching in the financial district.
