San Francisco Brewing Company, North Beach
This bar on Columbus Avenue was right in the heart of San Francisco's old Barbary Coast. Back then it was known as the Andromeda Saloon and had some interesting history. In the 1930s notorious gangster Baby Face Nelson was arrested while hiding in the what is now the ladies room in the basement of this saloon. The one-time Public Enemy Number One liked the Bay Area so much that he and had dyed his hair in hopes remaining here and fooling local authorities. Another well known figure of that era, boxer Jack Dempsey, worked as a bouncer in this saloon in 1913. Today, the San Francisco Brewing Company produces 1000 barrels of porter, ale, stout, wheat beer, and barley wine every year.
