The Claremont Hotel, Berkeley
The majestic Claremont Hotel opened in 1915, the construction, interrupted by the earthquake of 1906, had begun ten years earlier. It has been a favorite Bay Area destination ever since. Sitting majestically on a pristine mountainside in the Berkeley Hills it offers sweeping views the San Francisco Bay. During the 1930s the Claremont drew Hollywood stars like Barrymore and Garbo while bands such as Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, and Tommy Dorsey played in the Garden Room. Today a brand new 20,000 square foot, state-of-the-art spa has been added to the hotels 279 AAA Four-Diamond rated rooms.
