Buchanan Street Mall, Japantown
After the construction of Japantown, the pedestrian Buchanan Street Mall was developed in 1976. Lined with Japanese restaurants and shops the Mall was styled to represent a Japanese mountain village. The winding cobblestone paving in the center symbolizes a curving brook. The mall also features two incredible wrought and cast bronze origami fountains by local sculpture Ruth Asawa. The mall is the site of various cultural festivals every year including the Nihonmachi Matsuri and the Cherry Blossom Festival.
