Giant Sundial, Ingleside Terraces
Far be it from me to question the wisdom of building a huge sundial in one of the foggiest cities in the country. This 34-foot marble and concrete dial was erected on the site of the old Ingleside Race Track, and the oval street around it traces the path of the old track. The sundial was dedicated in 1913, on the day the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans first co-mingled in Panama, one year before the completion of the Canal. The sundial, called the largest in the world, sits in the middle of the 150 acre "residence park" of Ingleside Terraces.
