Buena Vista Cafe, Fisherman's Wharf
Picture the idealized San Francisco bar; old and historic, right on the waterfront, offering bay views, and with clanging cable cars passing right outside. What you've just imagined is the Buena Vista Cafe, opened as a bar in 1916 it sits at the bottom of the Hyde Street hill across the street from a cable car turnaround and Alcatraz Island in the bay beyond. The bar's greatest claim to fame is its introduction of Irish Coffee in 1952. The Buena Vista serves 2,000 of those frothy whiskey drinks a day to tourists and locals looking to beat back the evening chill.
