Sentinal Building, North Beach
This historic building's top floor once housed the offices of the notorious Abe Ruef, the infamous political "boss of California" who eventually served time in San Quentin for corruption. Later it was the home of "Caesar's" a restaurant that is credited with creating the famous salad. For years it was the headquarters of 'The Kingston Trio' musical group. More recently the building has become the site of Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope Studio and on the ground floor is his wonderful Cafe Niebaum-Coppola Italian bistro. At night the building's green patina and striking lighting gives it an ominious glow as it presides over North Beach's continuing history.
