Lagoon, Palace of Fine Arts
The Palace of Fine Arts is the only remaining structure from the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exhibition. The exhibition drew more than 18 million visitors from around the world. The palace's original construction of temporary wood and plaster was restored to reinforced concrete in 1962. The 1000 seat theatre attached to the Palace was the site of the 1967 presidental debate between Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. As one of the most beautiful spots in San Francisco, the Palace of Fine Arts is often used as a background for wedding photos. It is not uncommon to see three or four brides in white gowns posing here at the same time.
