Hotaling Warehouse, Jackson Square
Built in 1866 in the Italianate style, the A.P. Hotaling & Co. whiskey warehouse was one of the largest buildings on Jackson Square. During the Great Fire of 1906 the whiskey was so valued that one hundred men protected the warehouse from the flames and over a thousand barrels were evacuated to safety. Just like the Katrina Hurricane, one hundred years later, some clergymen claimed that the disaster was God's divine retribution for the wickedness of the City. However the same clergy were unable to explain how the churches were nearly all destroyed while Hotaling's Whiskey remained untouched.
