Pier Seven, Embarcadero
One of the most beautiful and dramatic spots on the waterfront is Pier 7. The 840-foot pier is outfitted with Victorian iron lamps, benches, and railings. The original pier from 1901 was replaced by this picturesque version in 1990. During the day the pier is populated by tourists and people from the nearby financial district enjoying their lunches. Fisherman also use the pier to pull in halibut, striped bass, various types of perch, kingfish, crabs, stingrays, skates, and the occasional leopard shark. At night the pier becomes one of the most romantic spots in the city with downtown, lit as a backdrop, reflecting off the water.
