Kanrin Maru Monument, Lincoln Park
This monument commemorates the first Japanese naval ship to enter the Golden Gate in 1860. However evidence suggests that other Asian navigators may have arrived centuries earlier. The wreck of a Chinese junk was recently found northeast of the San Francisco Bay, on the Sacramento River. Carbon dating shows that the vessel was built in 1410 and evidence indicates it landed here in 1421, 71 years before Columbus.
