Old Propellers, Aquatic Park
(Sending props out to all FogBay readers)
During the Gold Rush ships entering San Francisco Bay would be abandoned, sometimes even before docking. Passengers and crew would literally jump ship, buy a pan and a pick, then head off to the gold country. By the fall of 1849 over 600 ships lay deserted in the bay. Eventually these ghost ships were scuttled and turned into the landfill that makes up today's financial district.
