Maritime Museum, Aquatic Park
Pictured above is the ship-shaped, art deco Maritime Museum that is currently undergoing a $10 million renovation to become, well ship-shape. Built in 1939 as a WPA project, it was originally a bathhouse for swimmers. But due to a lack of interest in braving the frigid waters the building became a museum in 1951. The museum closed two years ago for the restoration and when it opens early next year it will be displaying some exhibits and art work that have not been seen in 50 years. The museum is just part of the $45 million renovation of the city's beautiful Aquatic Park.
