Nam Kue School, Chinatown
If you had grown up in Chinatown, this building might bring back some bad memories. This school in the heart of Chinatown is where many parents send their children for three hours every Saturday morning to learn Chinese language and cultural history. Founded by the Fook Yum Benevolent Society in 1919, the school offers classes in Cantonese and Mandarin to over 800 students. While most students who attended Nam Kue complain of missing the Saturday morning cartoons and the chance to sleep late, they usually agree that they were glad their parents forced them to go.
