Prevent Runaways, Potrero Hill
It's one of those street signs that makes visitors to the city laugh but with some of our streets having grades measuring well over 30°, runaway cars are a serious problem. Every year dozens of cars in San Francisco take a trip without their owners. The results can be dangerous or at the least, expensive. To avoid finding your car two blocks from where you parked it follow these rules; always set your parking brake on a hill. When parking downhill, turn your wheels to the right (see cars above), when parking uphill, turn your wheels to the left. Even if your car remains in place, failure to curb your wheels on a San Francisco hill will result in a steep ticket.
