The Corner Liquor Store
A 2004 survey put San Francisco at the top on the nation's list for spending on two different items, books and alcohol. The high per capita book spending isn't all that surprising with so many authors living in the Bay Area. In addition, there are a great number of literary events here ranging from the huge, nine-day Litquake Festival to the lesser-known, Annual Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair. I'm guessing the large amount of money spent locally on alcohol goes more to expensive dinner wines from Napa and Sonoma and less on boxed-wine varieties available at bodegas like the one above. Paradoxically I purchase all my personal reading material from the store shown above.
