The Old Mill, Mill Valley
Located 11 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, the idyllic town of Mill Valley is nestled among the redwood trees in Marin County, between the bay and Mount Tamalpais. The city got its name from the saw mill built during the 1830s by Irish settler John Reed. Upon his death in 1843 his vast property was divided and given to his four children. His daughter Inez received the portion known as Mill Valley. The Old Mill, pictured above, still sits in a park in the middle of the town.

Today, many consider Mill Valley typical of Marin County's bucolic affluence. With a Mediterranean climate it is home to a number authors, film actors, artists, and musicians. The picturesque town has been a shooting location of a number of films as well as the hometown for the fictional, B.J. Honeycutt on TV's M*A*S*H and the model for Back to the Future's 'Hill Valley'. Mill Valley is also home to the Muir Woods National Monument.
