Mini Series, Day 2 of 2
Virginia City has always been a rough-and-tumble town, with lynchings and shootings dating back to the Comstock Lode. Even Little Joe from television's Bonanza was always getting beat up in Virginia City (the Ponderosa Ranch is located nearby). The wild days were chronicled by reporters, Mark Twain and Bret Harte, both of whom wrote for the local Territorial Enterprise newspaper. Virginia City's main, C Street is lined with famous old bars like the Bucket of Blood and the Delta Saloon which features its notorious "Suicide Table," an old faro table on which a string of Delta Saloon owners committed suicide.

At the peak of its glory there were 30,000 residents of Virginia City, today it has a population of only about 1,500, however the rugged frontier flavor of the town remains. Besides being a tourist town, Virginia City attracts a large number of bikers and motorcycle clubs who enjoy the city's relaxed array of casinos, gun shops, and even nearby legal brothels. Pictured above is one biker saloon, note the underwear hanging from the ceiling, trophies of various patrons' amorous conquests.
