Mini Series, Day 1 of 4
San Francisco's Zoo dates back to 1856 when it was located in a downtown basement and featured only bears captured by the famous James "Grizzly" Adams. Ten years later the zoo moved to the city's Woodward’s Gardens and had grown to include a sea lion pond, bear grottos, black swans, deer, and an aviary. But it wasn't until 1925 that San Francisco's Zoo moved to its current home, 125 lush acres in the Sunset District next to the ocean.
