Doorman, Sir Francis Drake Hotel
There are a number of famous hotels in San Francisco and the Sir Francis Drake Hotel is among its finest. Built in 1928 the hotel has hosted five U.S. Presidents and is the favorite San Francisco hotel of visitors such as Mick Jagger, Tony Blair, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Bono. The hotel's signature doormen dress as British Beefeaters and provide friendly advice and directions to guests and non-guests alike. Due to the many hotels that surround the hotel's location off Union Square all the doormen in the area have devised a method to call taxis with their brass whistles. Each hotel has a different code to summon drivers in the area. When a cabbie hears two short and one long whistle he will head to the Sir Francis Drake, while two long and a short will direct him to the Westin St. Francis.
