Ikeda's, Auburn
If you don't live in the Bay Area then you probably won't appreciate this post, but if you live in the Bay Area then you probably drive up to Lake Tahoe to recreate. And if you go up to Lake Tahoe, you probably stop at Ikeda's fruit stand and restaurant in Auburn. Located halfway up the drive, Ikeda's is a absolute must-stop for many Tahoe-bound travelers. A place where everyone can stretch their legs, use the restroom, and stock up on fresh produce, seafood, baked goods, and snacks for the cabin.

Started by Sam and Sally Ikeda in the 1970s, the fruit stand has been selling their famous homemade pies and breads for 30 years. Ikeda's is located in Auburn where the produce-rich Central Valley gives way to the Sierra foothills. Given the fact that you might be held up on the mountain by a snowstorm, you'd better down one of Ikeda's famous 'Tasty Burgers' while you're there too. Sadly another family-favorite roadside stop, Nut Tree in Vacaville has been torn down and replaced by a shopping mall of the same name.
