Crabber, Crissy Field
One alternative to spending $95 on the chef's tasting menu at Aqua restaurant is to catch dinner yourself. Crabbing is a popular pastime for many people around the Bay. The activity requires only a hoop net attached to a rope, some raw chicken as bait, and a bucket to store your catch. Along with a fishing license, you're good to go. Drop the net and bait to the bottom of the Bay, wait 5 to 10 minutes then haul up the net along with feeding crabs inside. The crab's shells must be at least 4 inches across to be legal. Dungeness Crab seem to prefer the cooler waters of the Bay Area rather than waters south, and the crabbing here is so easy that anyone can go home with a bucket full after just a couple hours.
