We're going 'old school' today and nowhere is more old school than Big Nate's BBQ. Big Nate is actually Nate Thurmond, of the then, San Francisco Warriors (who later moved to Oakland) and a man voted to the NBA's 50 Greatest Players. Big Nate's serves up authentic southern style barbecue in this no-frills location South of Market. The walls of his restaurant are covered with photos of Nate and other NBA greats like Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. And if you're lucky during your visit, Nate himself will come by to greet you. The food is wonderful, especially the Memphis Pork Sandwich, and his hot sauce is so hot that it'll make you want to slide on your old throwback red, white, and blue sweatbands.
