Birds and Cars, Portero Hill
If you spend any time in San Francisco you will see the murals of San Francisco-based artist, Ricardo Gouveia. Gouveia, who goes by the name, Rigo came to the city in 1985 from the island of Madeira, off the west coast of Africa and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and Stanford University. His work aims to make light of things that are all around us, but go unseen. Rigo's many large murals are purposely created in public spaces rather than galleries and museums and it often takes the viewer a moment or two to realize they are looking at art rather than just another part of the urban landscape.
