Elephant Seal Cub, Marin County
Just across the bridge in Marin County's Fort Cronkite is the Marin Mammal Center, the largest marine mammal facility in the world. The MMC rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured, sick and orphaned marine mammals including seals, sea lions, sea otters, whales, dolphins, and harbor porpoises found along a 600 mile stretch of California coastline, from Mendocino through San Luis Obispo. Since 1975 the Marin Mammal Center has rescued and treated over 10,000 animals. The Center is also a teaching and research facility. You can check their web site to see their current patients and check their visitor's hours, better yet you can donate some money or volunteer your time.
