Looking Northeast, Twin Peaks
Almost exactly in the center of San Francisco's seven by seven miles sit Twin Peaks. These two peaks rise more then 900 feet above sea level and provide 360 degree views which give a good sense of how compact is San Francisco. Originally known as Los Pechos de la Choca, or 'The Breasts of the Indian Girl.' Twin Peaks was created, according to Indian legend, from Ohlone chief's twin daughters who had saved the tribe from invaders by sacrificing themselves to the Great Spirit. It was atop Twin Peaks that San Francisco received its last snowfall, five inches, back in 1976.
