Flower Mart, SOMA
San Francisco's own Covent Garden. In the late 1800s flower sellers congregated around Lotta's Fountain on Market Street to sell their products. By the early 1920s permanent flower shops were established here in SOMA and the flower market began to bloom. Today the huge Flower Mart has grown to over 60 vendors selling cut flowers, potted plants, blooming plants, and floral supplies. The Flower Mart warehouses open as early as 2:00 am for wholesale purchases and 10:00 am for the general public. Besides the best selection and best prices on flowers in the city, another reason to visit the mart is the Flower Market Cafe, which serves a wonderful food in a location that has been serving breakfast and lunch dating back to 1865.
